[57] Virgil is listed in the 1880 Census at 2 years age with father and mother and 8 brothers and sisters. Listed in the 1900 Census, District 7, Obion Co, TN as head of household, unmarried, with mother, brothers James and Willie, and sister, Maud. Also lister, Sarah Cullom, was listed with her son, Ernest, age 13, in the same household. Neighbors were Willie McSpaden and Sam James, who was a brother-in-law. They lived on a farm owned by Virgil's brother, James Thomas. After Virgil married Docia in 1902, he bought the farm next door which was owned by his sister and husband, Doc Walker. The first four children were born here. He bought the Jackson farm on the Rives-Mt Pelia Rd in1918 and moved there where Doris and Carolyn were born. He and Docia live here until their deaths. Both farms remain in the family to this day (1998). Virgil was an elder in the Berea Church of Christ of Obion County.
