[663] SCMAR, Vol. XX, Summer 1992, No. 3, p.130The Revolutionary War pension claim file of John Forrester at the NationalArchives contains little information beyond the fact that the papers are missing. However, the lost file has been located in RG 233, Records of the U. S. House of Representatives, HR 36A-G19.1 John Forrester, National Archives, Washington, D. C.The genealogical information from that file follows. John Forrester was born in Virginia, c 1766, and died in Habersham County, Georgia, probably in 1859. He tried through the pension office, The United States Congress, and the U. S. Court of Claims to obtain a pension for Revolutionary War service. He failed, although the Congressional Committee on Pensions believed his claims. Part of his problems seems to have been his association with J. Hughes, who was caught pushing a fraudulent pension claim. For information on the descendants of John Forrester, see Forrester Genealogical Association, House of Forrester (2 vols., Albany, GA) vol. 2, p. 34-5, a copy of which is in the Georgia Department of Archives and History. The South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral ResearchSCMAR, Volume XXNumber 3, Summer, 1992Notes from the Revolutionary War Pension Claim of John ForresterSCMAR, Vol. XX, Summer 1992, No. 3, p.130In an undated petition received in Congress on December 10, 1858, John Forrester, citizen of Georgia, states that he is about 100 years old. Charles Tankersley served in the same regiment (Brandon's) but in a different company. Charles' widow Catherine is drawing a pension.
