Samuel served as a soldier in the ARW, Ref DAR Index. In 1790 SC Census of York Co, listed as Sameul Whory. There were seven children, 4 boys & 3 girls. One boy, probably Andrew, was over 16 and the other boys were under 16. Samuel own one slave. Samuel and wife are believed to have moved to Chester Co, SC from Pennsylvania around 1764. He is believe to have settled first in Cumberland Co, PA having come from Ireland or Wales.
Samuel Wherry received two land grants from King George III, one for 100 acres on 15 May 1772 and the second ajoining the first for 100 acres on 1 December 1772. These properties were situated in Craven County, SC bounded on the north by Fishing Creek which are now in Chester County, SC. Neighbors were John Neely, Hugh White, John Workman, and Thomas Ferguson. The first 100 acres were survey for Samuel Wherry in 1774.
