[139] Richard Forrester is memtioned in several legal documents in South Carolina.He was named in the will of his father, James Forrester, along with his brothers, Hardy and John, and mother, Elizabeth drawn July 4, 1790 pr May 26, 1791. Richard bought land, 128acres in 1793; 100 acres in 1797; and 100 acres in 1800. Richard owned 178 acres on Meadow Fork, Mush Creek, Greenville, Co, SC. Brother John Forrester ownded 120 acres at the same location. INDEX BOOK D 1788-1799, page 226. Reference: Patent Land Survey; Index of land acquisitions 1770-1820; Greenville, Laurens, Newberry, Spartanburg, Union, and Parts of old 96th District, Compiled by Alma Spires Smith and Jean Smithe Owens, "A" Press 18 Thompson Street, Greenville, S.C. 29601 (803) 237-8358, 1978. Leonard Claiborne and Samuel Dunaway, Jr were living in the same Mush Creek area and received land grants there. Samuel and family later moved to Hickman Co, TN as did Richard where several of their descendants intermarried. In 1813 John, Hardy, Richard, Jeremiah, and Isham were buyers at the sale of Wm. Grant's estate. Jeremiah, Richard, and Alexander paid debts to the same estate. In the 1800 census of South Carolina, it list Richard and wife with 4 children, 2 males and 2 females all below 10 years age. He is listed 26/45, which checks with 1760 birthdate and wife is listed 16/26 which checks with her birthdate of about 1776. Hezekiah, his son, was born in 1797. Richard and family moved to Hickman County, TN in 1815 to the North Fork Sugar Creek area (this is near the I-40 Bucksnort exit). In the 1820census there were 12 people in his household. In addition to Richard and Elizabeth there were 7 boys and 3 girls. Since there were four daughters, Lucinda, Dinah, Laura, and Sarah Virginia, one was not present, perhaps married or had died. Only6 of the 7 boys are known: Hezekiah, Silas, Richard, Jr., Josiah, Jeremiah and Arthur. The seventhboy could have been a son-in-law. Altogether, it appears the Richard and Elizabeth could have had up 11 children. A Richard Forrest is found in Halifax Co., VA prior to 1790. One wonders if this was our RichardForrester, since he is not found in the census records of 1790 by the surname Forrester.
